My Sick Baby

Luke came down with his first illness last week and man was it a doozie! It all started with vomiting and then slowly transitioned over to diarrhea. All in all it lasted from Saturday to Saturday, which meant we had a sick baby on Thanksgiving :( It broke my heart to see him feel so terrible. I have never wished to have diarrhea, but I would have given anything to have had the GI bug instead of him. He maintained his happy go lucky self during the first part of the week, but became very cranky and clingy as the week progressed -- who can blame him? We ended up taking him to the doctor for his first "sick visit" the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to make sure he wasn't getting too dehydrated. Turns out Andy and I were doing a good job pushing the Pedialyte - and believe me, it wasn't an easy task! Here are a few pictures of him playing in his Ducky while he was still feeling semi well early in the week. I am so happy that he is feeling better.

Teething

I am way behind in my posts.....

Luke cut his third tooth about a week and a half ago!! Since then he has been chewing on just about anything he can get in his mouth. He even tried to chew on Andy's nose! Here are some pictures documenting his chewing spree and fresh hair cut. Gigi and Gin-Gin helped me cut his locks before his Christmas pictures. It is crazy to see so much blonde hair!

On the Move

In the past couple of weeks Luke has really taken off in his walker. For the longest time he could just scoot backwards, but now he is a racing man! He loves taking laps around the island and he likes to go up and down the hallway. It is so cute to see him run! Andy spent part of the day today baby proofing downstairs. His new found mobility quickly reminded us how closely we have to watch him! I guess it is a good thing he isn't crawling yet ;)

Sick Baby

I had good intentions of getting the blog updated this evening, but Luke has come down with a bug of some sort. We experienced our first throw up :( I sure hope that he gets to feeling better soon.

8 Months

Lucas is now 8 months old -- 2/3rds of a year! He is growing big and learning new things every day. He weighed in at 22.6 lbs, which keeps him in the 90th percentile. I don't have a new height, but he is tall! He is wearing 12 month clothes, but needs 18 month sleepers due to his length. He can say several sounds, but Ma-ma and Da-da are our favorites.

Luke still hasn't shown any signs of wanting to crawl. He is quite content with the things in his immediate surroundings and doesn't seem interested in exploring what is out of arms reach. His newest trick in the last week is clapping. I didn't know that such a simple thing would make me smile so much.

Luke still loves to eat! He now eats solids 3 times a day (stage 2 foods). For breakfast he eats oatmeal and fruit on most days, but thinks it is a special treat when he gets yogurt! He eats 1/2 of a fruit and 1/2 of a veggie at lunch and we change it up with some sort of a meat with veggies +/- a fruit for dinner. We stopped giving him a bottle with dinner and he drinks diluted apple or pear juice instead. Luke's diet is ever changing and the thing that I have been the most surprised about is that there is nothing out there telling you what you should be feeding your kid! I am so thankful to have friends to guide me through it all.

The latest challenge in parenting Luke is learning how to deal with his separation anxiety. He is starting to recognize when Andy drops him off in the morning -- let the crying begin! He keeps close tabs on me (and Grandma/Gigi) and does not want me to leave his sight. We are doing our best to assure him that we will be right back or that we are just around the corner, but I don't think that he is buying it! I am pretty sure that this is just a phase, but it breaks my heart to hear him cry :(

The one thing that I can say is that his smiles far outweigh his tears and I look forward to his eyes squinching up and his 2 little teeth making an appearance. I never knew I could have so much love for such a little guy!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Andy turned 30 this past week. I did't get a picture of him with Luke on his birthday, but I did manage to get a cute picture of Luke and him today at church both wearing their flannel shirts!! Andy and I met when we were just 18 years old and it is crazy to think that we are 30 (actually I am hanging on to 29 for the last few days that I can)! I am thankful that God gave Andy to me. He is a great husband and wonderful daddy. I could't imagine sharing my life with anyone else. Happy 30th Birthday -- OLD MAN!! :)

Bread

We went out for Andy's 30th birthday and Luke got his first taste of bread, buttery at that! It only lasted long enough for us to snap this picture. We got a little nervous that he might choke so we swapped it out for some cantaloupe (inside the mesh bag). He didn't seem to mind the swap because turns out he really likes cantaloupe! Too bad we didn't get a picture of him taking it out!

Happy Halloween!!

Luke celebrated his first Halloween last Sunday!! He dressed up as Nemo, the cutest little clown fish in town. Andy and I debated long and hard about the degree to which we, as a family, would participate in Halloween. We came to the conclusion that halloween costumes and trick-or-treating will be okay, as long as there are no witches, goblins, vampires, blood, etc. -- nothing scary, just cute little kids dressing up like cute little things. To celebrate the evening Matt, Brittany and Colin (the Itsy Bitsy Spider/robber/Frenchman/ninja) came to our neck of the woods. We dressed the boys up, let them give each other the once over, took them to a few houses, and then called it a night. I would say that our first Halloween was a success!! We enjoyed the evening spent with family and friends and we look forward to next year when the boys can walk!

X-Ray Vision

I really wanted to find Luke a skeleton shirt for Halloween. Believe it or not, it took me a while to actually find one in his size. I am not big on anything scary so I thought this shirt was PERFECT! If you look closely you can see the candy in his tummy - so cute! If only Luke knew what candy tasted like.....

Nemo
